Ryan Keeley, born February 13, 1982, in Annapolis MD, spent most of his adolescent years studying various drawing and painting techniques under a number of great artists and influencers. As a boy in school in the 1980’s in North Carolina, Keeley’s artistic talents were recognized by his parents and teachers at a very young age, when they decided to dedicate the majority of his schooling to perfecting these skills. After graduating from high school Keeley attempted to attend various Art collages only to find he was repeating what he had learned as a young boy and decided to set out and take his own course of action. At the time he had been spending a lot of his time traveling with surfing buddies and making a living by painting on surfboards for various surfboard shapers. This nomadic lifestyle served as a catalyst for inspiration and a means to travel the world. For the next few years Keeley would spend most of the time traveling from beach to beach painting on surfboards and large canvases all the while expanding his skill set and style. After years of perfecting his fine art craft and signature styles Keeley began to get attention from many different people which lead to projects producing artwork for restaurants, nightclubs, hotels, stages for musical acts and any and other project he could inject his artwork into.

In 2009 all of these efforts landed Keeley in New York City where everything changed. Late one night in his studio while attempting to experiment with a large format printer Keeley forcefully fed an already painted canvas through the very expensive machine. Within minutes the machine stopped and began to hurl a series of error codes and flashing warning lights. He had broken the very expensive machine but what happened next would change the course of his artwork and life forever.

Stubborn and embarrassed Keeley refused to call the repairman to come fix the machine. Instead he began to take the machine apart screw by screw and examining the inner workings of this machine. After Days of experimenting and trail and error he found a means to customize this machine in various ways that would allow him to feed already painted material through the printing process without having the printer fail or break again. He had developed a digital printing process that could produce images similar to a screen printer however in full high resolution and every color in the spectrum at once. He had developed a new aged digital paintbrush which he would then use to make his new work. This technique allowed Keeley to add very fine detailed photographic imagery to his paintings which he calls “Layered Hybrid Expressionism” similar to true expressionist paintings however using various forms of media layered on top of each other.

After the success of producing these images Keeley began to take on an entrepreneur mindset by opening his own gallery to showcase these works right in the Heart of New York City located on the Bowery. The commercial success of this project gained recognition by many in the art world and other projects began to spawn.
